Inner self-critical voices are scrutinising, attacking, and discouraging. They are also a pervasive part of human nature that push us to achieve more, but how do we find a balance? Self-criticism is a key pattern Dr Veronica Azua has noticed working with senior leaders over the years. This led her to complete a PhD on the impact of self-doubt in the workplace. The phenomenon is commonly manifested as impostor syndrome.

In this session we will share practical insights on Veronica’s research, including:

  • Definition and origins of self-criticism
  • Explore the consequences of dominant inner critical voices and how they can lead to unhealthy perfectionism
  • Research-based strategies to overcome unhelpful self-criticism
