Something New, Something Old, Something Blue – Technopolis Opens Workspace in Book Building on May 2, 2016

UMA Workspace is Technopolis’ network of coworking spaces. The flagship of the chain, UMA Esplanadi, opens on the third floor of Stockmann’s Book Building in Pohjoisesplanadi on May 2, 2016.

Community as Competitive Advantage

The idea of communities has had an important role in Technopolis’ business since the company’s foundation. “All of our 20 campuses in 12 cities and five countries have been designed to build communities through shared space and services. We opened our first coworking space back in 2010, and now we are investing in them even more. Opening the new coworking space in downtown Helsinki highlights our 30-year-old concept”, says Keith Silverang, CEO of Technopolis.

UMA Esplanadi has been built on the third floor of Stockmann’s Book Building, above Academic Bookstore. “We couldn’t have found a better place for our new workspace”, says Silverang. “The building designed by Alvar Aalto is truly exceptional and is a valuable landmark to the Finns. It was important for us to renovate the traditional milieu into a functional and modern workspace so that we could do justice to its long tradition and preserve its unique ambiance. The new and the old meet in the space in an exciting way.”

Office away from Office

UMA Workspace provides a professional working environment for businesses of all sizes. UMA Esplanadi offers workstations for a hundred people at a time, providing desks, meeting rooms, a brainstorming area and a zone for events. A host helps customers with their daily needs and organizes events and networking activities.

“We want to offer our customers effortless coworking space, where all kinds of people can work efficiently and flexibly. We don’t want to impose the coworking ideology, but to offer functional facilities that help communities to be built in a natural way. It’s important for us to allow everyone to be themselves, which is why the needs of introverts have also been taken into account”, says Terhi Aho, Concept Manager at Technopolis.

UMA Esplanadi was created in cooperation with Elisa and Martela. One of the first customers of UMA Esplanadi is Heltti Oy, a company offering occupational healthcare. They are also strong advocates of modern work that is not bound by time or place.

”We strongly believe that people doing brain-work will be taking advantage of coworking spaces, such as UMA by Technopolis, more and more in the future. It’s beneficial for companies offering business-to-business services to place themselves there too. By locating Heltti’s healthcare and wellbeing services in UMA Esplanadi, we are part of the big change in modern work”, says Timo Lappi, CEO of Heltti.

Grand Opening of UMA Esplanadi on April 29, 2016

The grand opening of UMA Esplanadi will be held on April 29, 2016 at 12 a.m. The media is welcome to explore the ground-breaking space at 11 a.m., when Keith Silverang will answer questions and give a tour of the new workspace.
