The loss of cohesion and deep connection to others felt by many remote workers has turned our attention to the meaning of office. Many find that being away from a shared space takes not only a toll on wellbeing, but also on creativity and innovation.

In this talk, we will dive into the neuroscience of how spaces influence human cognition and emotion. We will explore the science-based possibilities of enhancing wellbeing and the quality of thought by developing the spaces we inhabit.
The talk aims to answer the following questions:
- How can spaces influence our concentration, memory, creativity and collaboration?
- What is the point of having an office today?
- If office spaces were designed to support our brains at work, what would they look like?

Katri Saarikivi is a cognitive neuroscientist co-leading the CREDUProject at the Cognitive Brain Reasearch Unit at Helsinki University.
The project examines neural mechanisms involved in learning and collaboration, and how these mechanisms could be better supported by online as well as physical environments.
Alongside research, her goal is to open up the scientific method to the public, and help work organizations leverage and apply relevant new research to help them succeed in increasingly complex and fast-moving environments.
