Technopolis and VTT agreed on expanding premises in Otaniemi, Finland – the new building will be completed in 2025

The shared workspace expert Technopolis is expanding the premises currently used by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in Otaniemi, Espoo. The expansion of the Innopoli 4 premises is designed for laboratory and office spaces and will be completed in 2025.

The expansion is part of the EUR 97.8 million development project of Innopoli 4 and will increase the premises’ total surface area to approximately 19,000 square meters once finished. VTT is the main tenant of the premises.

“Thanks to the lease signed for the new building, we are able to continue the expansion of the office premises we built for VTT in Otaniemi as planned. The sizeable investment demonstrates our trust in the development of Otaniemi area and in the innovation and research in the life sciences sector conducted in the area. We also have the option to further expand Innopoli 4 with phases 4 and 5, the decision on which will be made later,” says the CEO of Technopolis, Niko Pulli.

Innopoli 4, which is part of Technopolis Otaniemi, comprises of three buildings that are completed in phases. The first phase of Innopoli 4 was completed in 2020 and the second phase is set to be completed in the summer of 2023. The newly signed lease covers the new building of the premises, i.e. the third phase, which is to be completed in 2025.

“The development of the Otaniemi area along with the increasing attractiveness of the area further supports the development of Technopolis’ buildings, and we want to do our part in investing in Otaniemi and Espoo’s growth. For example, the Jokeri Light Rail will run right next to our campus, further improving the services and accessibility of the area when it is completed at the beginning of 2024,” Pulli says.

Otaniemi campus in Espoo and Ydinkeskusta campus in Oulu are Technopolis’ first campuses that are carbon neutral in energy usage (scope 1 and 2) due to the implementation of energy-efficiency measures, 100 % renewable energy procurement, and the use of artificial intelligence and advanced analytics and energy optimization.
