Axon expands at Technopolis: New office supports innovative product development

Axon develops cutting-edge solutions for law enforcement and the security sector – from body-worn cameras to drones and intelligent software. The company’s camera-focused unit in Tampere has been a Technopolis customer for over seven years. In spring 2025, the team moved into larger, fully customized offices on the Yliopistonrinne campus to meet its evolving needs.

  • Challenge

Axon’s Tampere team grew rapidly, and the old office had become too small for daily work. In addition, the team’s product development required a windowless image-quality laboratory, which called for a completely modifiable, empty space.

  • Solution

Technopolis tailored and fully renovated larger premises for Axon on the same campus. The new office offers more workstations and meeting rooms, as well as laboratory conditions that enable top-tier product development. The move within the campus, from one office space to another, went smoothly, without rush or unnecessary hassle.

“We’ve been a Technopolis customer for over seven years, and in May 2025 we moved into larger offices under the same roof. Our old office had simply become too small, and we needed more space and workstations. Fortunately, there was a suitable larger space available on the same campus, which was essentially renovated from the ground up for us,” says Juha Alakarhu, Vice President of Imaging at Axon.

Case Axon

New premises provide the perfect setting for imaging technology development

In addition to the comprehensive renovation, which also included new surfaces, a large laboratory was built in the heart of the new office. The office space was tailored specifically to meet Axon’s needs – for example, the windowless area supports the special requirements of image-quality testing.

“We’ve found Technopolis to be a very flexible partner. When we began planning the move, we discussed different options and timelines together. Technopolis provided great practical support, handling the subcontractors, interior designers, and contractors. Overall, the move went smoothly and without pressure,” Alakarhu explains.

Technopolis is a reliable partner in everyday operations

Nordea operates on three floors at Technopolis. The phone customer service and expert unit are located on the 5th floor, customer service and main operations are on the 6th floor, and additional space is used on the 3rd floor. Nordea has gained special added value from the wide range of meeting rooms that are available on the Yliopistonrinne campus, which provide excellent support for organising customer events, for example.

"Even though we operate on multiple floors, the facilities have been carefully selected with business needs as the top priority. There are both quiet and other diverse workspaces available for every employee. At Technopolis, we don't need to include meeting facilities in our own office space. Instead, we can rent meeting rooms on the campus from the reception. We have used this service to organise events for customers and personnel, for example," Koivunen says.
