From vision to reality: Mekitec’s fresh new office boosts team spirit
Mekitec is a Finnish company which specialises in ensuring food safety with advanced x-ray inspection systems. The globally operating company's headquarters are located in Technopolis Otaniemi, Espoo.
Challenge
As Mekitec moved more operations to Southern Finland, they needed to optimize their Espoo office to accommodate a growing team and support cross-functional collaboration while maintaining space also for focused work. Their existing office space required a fresh, modern update to better reflect their evolving work culture and company growth.
Solution
Working closely with Technopolis, Mekitec renovated their Otaniemi premises to create a clean, inspiring environment with more workstations, meeting rooms, and quiet zones. The efficient renovation improved space utilization boosting employee motivation and productivity.
“We have been Technopolis’ customers since 2014 in two locations: Espoo and Oulu. That means Technopolis has been our primary and only landlord in Finland for the past ten years. Creating a fresh look and a more functional workspace
With operations increasingly concentrated in southern Finland, the company wanted to give its Espoo office a facelift. In addition to the aesthetic benefits, the renovation also allows more employees to work comfortably there.
“We aim to have more people working in Espoo in the future. That’s why we decided to give the Espoo office a facelift. Our goals were clear: we wanted more collaboration space, as our work is mainly cross-functional and we need a good, inspiring environment where ideas can spark. At the same time, we also needed enough space for focused work,” Uusitalo describes.
A smooth and fast renovation process
The Technopolis team kicked off the renovation efficiently, updating the space and refreshing the look according to Mekitec’s wishes. The final result has delighted the entire Mekitec team.
“The whole process from start to finish was very smooth. Our dedicated Account Manager at Technopolis led the project: she met with us a few times, and after those comprehensive meetings, we made the final decision about the renovation. I was surprised at how quickly everything was executed – the renovation started in July, and by mid-August we were already moving back in”, Uusitalo adds.

“The new premises in Otaniemi help keep us motivated to come to work every day. The space is clean, fresh, and inspiring, and it actually looks even better than it did on paper. The renovation allowed us to increase the number of workstations, meeting rooms, and completely silent spaces. In fact, we’re now using the space more efficiently than before, which is a real benefit. We also continue to enjoy the comprehensive services available on the Technopolis campus, such as the gym, restaurants, and meeting rooms with saunas,” Uusitalo concludes.
