Levels of burnout and fatigue are on the rise. While stress can’t be avoided altogether, prolonged periods of toxic stress can drain your energy and push you toward burnout.
In this session, we take a closer look at stress and fatigue, and the stigmas that exist around both. We’ll help you understand how stress leads to toxic stress, what the warning signs are and what you can do to stop a ‘healthy passion’ from turning into a source of burnout.
We’ll also take a closer look at the 12 stages of burnout, and what the science says about how you can respond and what can do to recover.

- Stress, fatigue, burnout: What is stress and when does it become toxic? What are the characteristics of burnout and when are you “just tired”? What’s healthy passion and when does it go overboard?
- Myth busting: What are the dangerous myths around burnout, and what do the facts and science tell us?
- Warning signs and actions: The warning signs to look out for – in yourself and others – the 12 stages of burnout, and how to react and prevent fatigue from spilling into burnout

Suzy Madge is a much sought-after performance coach and mentor. Suzy’s interest in the connection between mind, body, and performance began as a 12-year-old international tennis player. Swapping small yellow balls for big white mountains, she pursued her passions for wellbeing and adventure sports with an MSc in Positive Psychology, leading ski-mountaineering expeditions all over the world. She clearly made a lasting impression: she even has a mountain in Afghanistan named after her, “Koh-e-Suzanna”.
As a wellbeing and performance psychologist, Suzy’s particular topics of interest are risk, stress, focused attention, core, and meaning.
